Field Operator / Trainee (Entry-Level) Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Summary
The Field Operator assists with the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and repair of the District’s water system. This position involves outdoor, hands-on work and provides an opportunity to learn all aspects of water distribution. Training will be provided for systems, equipment, and licensing.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with locating underground utilities and responding to locate requests
- Help maintain and repair water mains, service lines, valves, and meters
- Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance at pump stations and facilities
- Monitor system alerts (SCADA and meter system) and report issues
- Conduct water sampling and general system checks
- Assist with installation of new services and minor construction projects
- Operate tools, equipment, and district vehicles safely
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in an organized manner
- Complete basic reports and document field activities
- Provide professional and courteous interaction with customers and the public
- Work closely with office staff and other team members
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class E Missouri driver’s license (or ability to obtain)
- Ability to obtain a Missouri DNR DSII Operator License within a specified timeframe
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to perform physical labor (lifting, digging, bending, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Experience in construction, utilities, or related field work
- Familiarity with equipment such as skid steers or excavators
- Basic mechanical or plumbing skills
Compensation
- Starting pay: $50,000 annually
- Higher pay available based on experience, skills, and certifications

Working Conditions
