Field Operator / Trainee (Entry-Level) Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

The Field Operator assists with the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and repair of the District’s water system. This position involves outdoor, hands-on work and provides an opportunity to learn all aspects of water distribution. Training will be provided for systems, equipment, and licensing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with locating underground utilities and responding to locate requests
  • Help maintain and repair water mains, service lines, valves, and meters
  • Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance at pump stations and facilities
  • Monitor system alerts (SCADA and meter system) and report issues
  • Conduct water sampling and general system checks
  • Assist with installation of new services and minor construction projects
  • Operate tools, equipment, and district vehicles safely
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in an organized manner
  • Complete basic reports and document field activities
  • Provide professional and courteous interaction with customers and the public
  • Work closely with office staff and other team members

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Class E Missouri driver’s license (or ability to obtain)
  • Ability to obtain a Missouri DNR DSII Operator License within a specified timeframe
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to perform physical labor (lifting, digging, bending, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Experience in construction, utilities, or related field work
  • Familiarity with equipment such as skid steers or excavators
  • Basic mechanical or plumbing skills

Compensation

  • Starting pay: $50,000 annually
  • Higher pay available based on experience, skills, and certifications

Working Conditions
